The natural world is a major source of inspiration for me in my workshop in England, and I often look to natural shapes such as trees and roots for ideas that can be turned into beautiful new pieces. This silver and gold emerald ring is a perfect example of that, because it’s a real blend of the natural and the artificial, taking a strand of textured Sterling silver that has been created using the form of a rose root. I love the delicacy of the strands in the root and the way it can be so delicate and yet so strong at the same time, which is why I like the texture on this piece.
But the silver band is only the start of the story, because the primary focus of this piece is the gorgeous emerald that is held within a golden setting that is specially designed to focus the light and attention on the stone. Brightness is important for emeralds, which can show off surprising depth of colour in the right setting, and this ring can be included in a stack with others for an even greater effect.
